The CSI Christ Tamil Church is meant to be built for Tamil Christians at Chalappuram locality in Calicut. Light serves as the principle source of concept while designing the church. Light being the means by which we experience what is called “sacred”, we felt it apparent to have light as the origin of this structure. The church has been designed in concentric shells intended to welcome the faithful and lift up the dispirited residential fabric. In this church, the cylindrical shells define an enveloping atmosphere in which the light from the skylights above creates a luminous spatial experience and the rays of sunlight serves as a mystical metaphor for God.
