The StudioArchitecture may be described as the perfect union of functionality and aesthetics, form and function.
BCA Architecture is an architectural practice based in Calicut. From a studio established by Babu Cherian in 1995, the practice was re-formed as BCA Architecture in 2015. The firm simultaneously engages with a diverse clientele across public, private and voluntary sectors. With a strong team of dedicated and experienced architects, CAD draftsmen, graphic designers and 3D experts BCA Architecture works towards achieving the goals set forth by the client requirement. The design process begins with sketches of plans and sections from our principal architect that undergo multiple iterations of modification and detailing by our design team. BCA Architecture has completed projects ranging from single-family residences to large scale institutions and apartment complexes.
Babu CherianDesigns that radiate warmth and an aura of timelessness. Designs which are the realisation of a desire to integrate the natural elements make Babu Cherian an architect with a difference.
Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the T.K.M. College of Engineering, Quilon, Kerala, he commenced his career with Architect Dinesh Rajeshrike & Associates, Mumbai as an Apprentice Architect.
It was in 1995 that he began his own private practice and till date he has come out with creative design solutions that interact with the environment. As we approach an experimental era where the architect is swamped in new materials and techniques, Babu Cherian looks towards the past to build for the future by drawing from traditional Kerala architecture and reinventing it to suit contemporary needs. Inspired by architectural giants such as Geoffery Bawa and Charles Correa, Cherian believes in creating architecture that speaks to its surroundings, bringing in nature and skyscape.
Versatile and adaptive design solutions coupled with an identical creative excellence, make his work prominent. A unique combination of resources, skills and vision, he often draws inspiration from the spectacular land scenario of Kerala and the architect in him steps into the spirit and character of the Kerala style of architecture. His works feature a heavy use of craftsmanship, his designs and products are more the work of the craftsman than of the architect. His recent works are reinterpretations of the traditional Kerala style with their sloping roofs clad with Mangalore patterned tiles and plastered walls that emanate a feeling of timelessness. His residences strike a chord between architecture and people. A perfect harmony of indoor and outdoor spaces is achieved along with a strategic play of material and texture. In fact, his practice has trodden the global path many a time, by reaching out to clientele from different parts of the world.
